Treatment is available for newly diagnosed patients and for patients with recurrent or advanced breast cancer.
Diagnostic evaluations are thorough and streamlined to reduce the anxiety-producing waiting times between tests, appointments and results. Initial appointments are usually scheduled for the morning. Necessary tests, including imaging scans, biopsies and consultations are often scheduled beginning the same afternoon.

When biopsies are necessary, most patients receive a core needle or Mammotome biopsy with stereotactic or ultrasound guidance.
Specialists at Mayo Clinic in Florida offer biopsies guided by magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). MRI may eliminate the need for surgery if the problem tissue is benign. MRI-guided biopsies may also be used to formulate the most appropriate surgical plan when cancer is identified.
Biopsy results are usually available within 48 hours. If the diagnosis is cancer, treatment planning can begin almost immediately. Mayo's team of specialists includes surgeons, plastic surgeons, medical oncologists and radiation oncologists who work together to provide the most appropriate care for patients who have breast cancer.

The Breast Center at Mayo Clinic in Florida is staffed by medical internists, medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, radiologists, surgeons, plastic surgeons, nurse practitioners and physician assistants who have a special interest in breast cancer.
The team also includes a breast cancer program coordinator, breast cancer nurse educator, advanced registered nurse practitioner, dietitian, social worker, physical therapist, genetic counselor and clinical research coordinators.
