Brain Tumors

Research

Mayo Clinic Cancer Center is one of only four cancer centers to receive a National Cancer Institute-sponsored Specialized Program of Research Excellence (SPORE) grant for brain cancer research.

Many patients under treatment also participate in clinical trials and associated research at Mayo Clinic, including studies of tumor biology, neuropathology, and epidemiology. This large patient base forms the foundation of the neuro-oncology research program, part of the Mayo Clinic Comprehensive Cancer Center. The goal of the program is to identify pathogenetic mechanisms of brain tumor biology and to develop interventions that result in improved duration and quality of life for patients with primary brain tumors.

Mayo Clinic participates in numerous clinical trials for brain and nervous system tumors, including trials originating at Mayo Clinic and those sponsored by the National Cancer Institute through the North Central Cancer Treatment Group (NCCTG).
