Bone Marrow Transplant

Housing Options in Florida

The Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT or blood and marrow transplant) clinical coordinator and social worker are available to review housing options for you and your family during your stay in Jacksonville.

Some area hotels offer special rates for Mayo transplant patients and their families. Your BMT clinical coordinator or social worker can provide a list of accommodations near the hospital and discuss your individual needs.

If you and your family plan to remain in the area after the transplant, a furnished apartment may be more economical. Furnished apartments in Jacksonville range upwards from $600 a month. While most apartment communities prefer long-term leases, many make exceptions based on availability.

Your social worker can provide an apartment directory and other information about the community to help in your search.

Housing and Miscellaneous Expenses

On occasion, insurance companies will pay housing and related costs when the patient remains in the area after the transplant. These negotiations take place with your insurance company before the transplant.

Some families cover housing, transportation, food and other related expenses through fund-raising efforts in their local communities. Your social worker can provide information and resources on how to raise funds.

Families who find hotel and apartment accommodations beyond their means or who have limited resources to cover these expenses should discuss their concerns with the clinical coordinator or social worker. Creative solutions may be available.
