H. Gordon Deen, Jr., M.D.

close video

I'm Gordon Deen. I'm a neurosurgeon here in the Department of Neurosurgery at Mayo Clinic Florida. I got interested in spine in particular because there's so many patients with spinal disorders. So I just looked at it as a way where I could help the most people.

I think one of the keys to getting a good result after spine surgery is having a well-educated, well-informed patient. I show them the diagnosis on an anatomic model. I explain surgical procedures. Might need a second visit to explain things again. The thing that gives me a warm feeling is to get a good result for a patient and help them get their pain under better control and improve their quality of life.
