Transplant Psychology and Psycho-oncology - quality of life, adjustment to chronic illness and coping; health behaviors related to end-stage organ disease and transplant outcomes, tobacco use, adherence to medical regimens (compliance), caregiver and general social support, ethics of organ and cell donation, psychological factors affecting medical conditions, cancer risk behaviors (e.g., tobacco, alcohol), and behavioral cardiovascular risk factors, to aid the integration of behavioral medicine into transplant medicine from an evidence-based perspective, currently with the blood and marrow transplant team to optimize psychometric assessment within the context of pre-transplant psychological evaluations and to study the impact of health behaviors on transplant outcomes. Participate in multi-site transplant center effort to study skin cancer prevention behaviors in solid organ transplant populations, and a randomized clinical NIH trial to examine the efficacy of an herbal treatment for tobacco dependence.
