Development of new-generation drugs for treatment of various neuropsychiatric disorders (one group of compounds that block transporters for serotonin, norepinephrine, and dopamine ["triple re-uptake inhibitors,"] may have antidepressant effects. Another class of compounds that are analogs of the active fragment of the endogenous neuropeptide neurotensin is being developed for treatment of schizophrenia, Parkinson's disease, and both somatic and neuropathic pain.), Studies on the mechanism of action of mood stabilizers, such as lithium salts.
