Bile Duct Cancer

Research

Mayo Clinic doctors and scientists are pursuing ideas aimed at early detection of bile duct cancer and better treatments. Currently, Mayo Clinic researchers are either planning or actively investigating:

  • The best radiologic tests for diagnosis
  • Novel tests on biological specimens to diagnose bile duct cancers early
  • Use of liver transplant in selected patients
  • Novel chemotherapeutic and targeted agents (8)
  • Symptomatic treatment for inoperable cancers in patients unable to receive chemotherapy
  • Photodynamic therapy
