Bile Duct Cancer

Research

Mayo Clinic physicians and scientists involved with bile duct cancer research seek to decrease its mortality rate by actively pursuing ideas aimed at early detection of this cancer and better treatments. Currently, research staff at Mayo Clinic are either planning or actively investigating:

  • The optimal radiologic tests for diagnosis (CT/ERCP/EUS/MR/PET)
  • Novel tests on biological specimens to diagnose bile duct cancers early
  • Use of liver transplantation in highly selected patients
  • Novel chemotherapeutic agents
  • Symptomatic treatment for inoperable cancers in patients unable to receive chemotherapy
  • Photodynamic therapy
