Accessibility Services

Mayo Clinic offers many accessibility services for patients who need assistance. These on-campus accessibility services are easy to access and free of charge.

Door attendants or patient care staff can help you arrange accessibility services. Family and friends also are welcome to assist you with special needs during your visit to Mayo Clinic.

Wheelchairs and strollers

Wheelchairs and strollers are available free of charge for use on the Mayo Clinic campus, including Mayo's hospitals. Wheelchairs are located throughout the campus and hospitals. Strollers can be checked out at the west doors of the Gonda Building and the main (west) entrance of Saint Marys Hospital.

If you would prefer a larger-sized wheelchair, please ask a door attendant, or call General Service at 507-266-7100 for an escort.

Escorts

General Service patient escorts are available to transport patients to and from appointments. This free assistance is offered to patients with visual impairments, those who use wheelchairs and others who have difficulty walking. Staff members in patient care areas or Mayo information desks can arrange an escort, and can provide directions or answer questions during your visit to Mayo Clinic.

Scooters, walkers and off-campus wheelchair rentals

Scooters, walkers and wheelchairs needed for off-campus use can be rented at the Mayo Clinic Store, located in the Siebens Building Subway.

Handicapped parking

If you have a handicapped parking tag displayed on your car, you may park for free at any city meter in Rochester. Parking is limited to the maximum time posted on the meter. Downtown meters are typically set to allow parking for 30 minutes, 90 minutes or three hours.

Van-accessible and state handicap parking spaces are available in Mayo's Graham Parking Ramp. Patient ramp parking fees apply. All public ramps in Rochester have clearly marked, designated handicapped parking spaces. Learn more about parking.

Services for the hearing-impaired

Sign language interpreters are available at no charge to patients. Please tell the registration staff or the appointment secretary that you will need an interpreter.

Volume-controlled telephones and Telecommunications Devices for the Deaf (TDD) also are available. Staff at the Information Desk in the Mayo Building, Gonda Building Subway and the Gonda Lobby can direct you to these devices.

Restrooms

Wheelchair-accessible restrooms are located in all buildings and marked with signs noting accessibility. If you have difficulty locating a wheelchair-accessible restroom, ask a Mayo staff member for assistance.

Private restrooms with space for a companion are marked as "special needs restrooms" and are available in the following locations:

  • Mayo Building Subway
  • Gonda Building Subway
  • Saint Marys Hospital, Joseph Building, Main Floor
