What to Expect

Tests and Diagnosis

Your Schedule of Tests

Your tests will be ordered for you through a computerized system. Please be aware that your schedule may take time to prepare.

When your schedule is complete, the receptionist will call you to the desk to explain the nature of the tests and any necessary preparations. Be sure to ask any questions you may have.

Completing Your Tests

The receptionist or technician in each test area will give you instructions before tests are performed. Comfortable, loose clothing is ideal because you may have to roll up a sleeve for blood tests or change to a gown for certain procedures.

The results of your tests will be compiled and then evaluated by your primary physician at Mayo.

Mayo Medical Laboratories

The majority of your laboratory tests will be performed and interpreted at Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville. If needed, however, the services of Mayo Medical Laboratories in Rochester, Minn., are available for more highly specialized tests. This large reference laboratory is used by physicians throughout the world. It provides a level of laboratory expertise not readily available in many communities.

Diagnosis and Treatment

After your diagnostic tests, your Mayo physician will discuss the findings with you and explain any necessary treatment. A report of your examination will be sent to you and your local physician if you wish.
