Bariatric Surgery

Treatment in Arizona

Mayo Clinic has been performing weight reduction surgery in Arizona since 1993. Surgeons perform about 100-120 procedures annually. Minimally invasive surgery using laparoscopic techniques is the procedure of choice at Mayo Clinic in Arizona.

Treatment Team

The Mayo Clinic bariatric health-care team consists of specialists from Endocrinology, Dietetics, Psychiatry and General Surgery.

Appointments

For appointments or more information, call the Central Appointment Office at (800) 446-2279 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Mountain time Monday through Friday, or complete an online appointment request form.

Bariatric Surgery Support Group

Our Bariatric Surgery Support Group meetings are open forums where we all share information. We also have speakers present at meetings throughout the year, such as the surgeon, endocrinologist, dietician, physical therapy, exercise and more.

The group meets on the 3rd Saturday of each month, from 9 a.m. to noon, at Mayo Clinic Hospital (room 1-212, near hospital entrance)

9 - 10:30 a.m.           Pre- and early post-operative focus
10:30 a.m. - noon     Post-operative focus

Meetings are open to the public, and attendees can choose to attend part or all of the meetings. There is no charge or cost to attend, and family and friends are also welcome.

Bariatric program informational sessions offered by multi-disciplinary bariatric team

Are you interested in hearing about medical and surgical options related to the Mayo Clinic Bariatric Program? Come to an informational session with physician and allied health members of the multi-disciplinary bariatric team. During this interactive session, you will have an opportunity to learn more about Mayo's program, ask questions regarding your care and also hear about the pre-certification and registration process. Sessions are open to employees, friends and family.

Mayo Clinic's Bariatric Program offers obese and overweight patients a comprehensive approach to weight loss and weight management. A team of specialists, including an endocrinologist, registered dietitian, clinical psychologist, nurse practitioner, registered nurse and surgeon, work together to develop treatment plans tailored to each patient's needs. Medically supervised interventions include nutrition therapy, behavior modification, pharmacotherapy and weight-loss surgery, including laparoscopic adjustable gastric band, Roux-en-y gastric bypass and sleeve gastrectomy.
