Bariatric Surgery

Treatment in Minnesota

Mayo surgeons in Minnesota perform about 300 bariatric surgeries each year. They have a combined experience of more than 60 years in performing this procedure.

The Mayo Clinic in Minnesota has special expertise in re-operations to repair previously unsuccessful surgeries and also in helping severely obese people (greater than 50 BMI).

Treatment Team

The Mayo Clinic bariatric health care team consists of specialists from Endocrinology, Dietetics, Psychiatry and Psychology and Gastroenterologic and General Surgery. Specialists from Cardiology, Pulmonology Diseases and other areas are available, as needed.

A preliminary evaluation at Mayo Clinic in Minnesota may last two to three days. Mayo Clinic will often refer people from out of town to a doctor in their hometown to complete the evaluation. The patient then returns to Minnesota for surgery.
