Mayo Clinic's campus in Florida has a dedicated Bariatric Center to help people struggling with obesity take control of their weight. The Mayo Clinic team has a combined experience of more than 30 years in caring for bariatric surgery patients.
The Mayo Clinic bariatric health care team consists of a bariatrician (obesity medicine specialist), registered dietitians, clinical psychologists, a registered nurse and surgeons. Specialists from Cardiology, Pulmonology, Endocrinology, the Sleep Disorders Clinic and other areas are available, as needed.
The evaluation process usually takes about three to six months. It may be longer than six months before the surgery because of insurance processing and scheduling. The preliminary evaluation for bariatric surgery in Florida can be completed in one day.

Bariatric Surgery Support Group meetings are open to the Mayo Clinic patients and employees. Groups are facilitated by a clinical psychologist, a registered dietitian and a physical therapist. The format consists of a short presentation by the facilitator followed by an open group discussion.
The group meets from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. on the 2nd Monday of each month on the ground floor of the Cannaday Building, Room 1106.
