Autoimmune Pancreatitis

Symptoms

Autoimmune pancreatitis (AIP) is more common in men than women and tends to appear in middle age or later, though it can occur at younger ages.

Although the pancreas is inflamed, symptoms tend to be mild, as opposed to symptoms in people affected with acute pancreatitis.

About 80 percent of patients have jaundice and up to half have had a recent onset of diabetes mellitus.

Other symptoms may include:

  • Weight loss
  • Back pain
  • Mild abdominal pain
  • Itching
