The Electrophysiology (EP) and Cardiac Device Services at Mayo Clinic in Florida specialize in the diagnosis and treatment of adults with all types of heart rhythm disorders, including atrial fibrillation. Nationally recognized electrophysiologists — cardiologists with specialized training in the evaluation and treatment of heart rhythm disorders — staff the EP services. The integrated team also includes cardiologists who specialize in imaging and interventional techniques and cardiothoracic surgeons.
The service's team provides a patient-centered approach. Staff use the newest, most advanced technologies to provide patients with the most accurate and comprehensive treatment for heart rhythm problems. Patients also may be candidates for technologies being tested in clinical trials.
Electrophysiologists perform electrophysiology studies (EPS) and catheter ablation. These specialists are experienced in the implantation of cardiac devices, including single- and dual-chamber pacemakers, defibrillators and biventricular devices used to treat slow heart rates, life-threatening heart rhythms and heart failure.
