Improving what we do

Notable advances, new models of care

Innovation permeates Mayo Clinic. We strive to be a world-class health care innovator — in our patient care, our research, our education and our community service. This 2010 annual report, in its entirety, captures stories of remarkable Mayo innovation. So why a section of our report specifically devoted to innovation?

The stories here highlight notable advances and stories of Mayo innovation in two broad categories:

An example of technology innovation is our continuing development of telemedicine for rural hospitals, enabling Mayo Clinic neurologists to transmit their expertise to rural communities via audio/video telemedicine consultation, with significant clinical results.

Our Center for Science of Health Care Delivery represents a prime example of collaborative innovation. Clinicians and researchers at Mayo Clinic's Minnesota, Florida and Arizona campuses, as well as Mayo Clinic Health System, are working to design best practices for primary care, diabetes care, hip replacements and ICU care.
