Anatomic Pathology in Minnesota

Immunostains Laboratory

The Immunostains Laboratory performs immunohistochemistry (IHC), in-situ hybridization (ISH) and mass spectrometry-based proteomic (MS) tests for clinical diagnosis. Specimens are received from surgical pathology, bone marrow, cytology, Mayo Clinic practices and consultative practice. Testing is focused on diagnostic protein (antigens) markers and predictive/prognostic markers. The test menu includes 230 IHC test, 16 ISH tests and three MS tests. Each year approximately 180,000 IHC tests, 5000 ISH tests and 1000 MS tests are performed. The laboratory has an active test development initiative conducted by experienced scientific staff and led by the lab directors.
