Anal Fissure

Symptoms

Symptoms of anal fissures can include:

  • Anal pain, particularly during and after bowel movements and usually described as burning, throbbing, or a dull ache
  • Bleeding that stains the toilet paper
  • Blood on the surface of (but not mixed with) stool
  • Constipation (may be the cause of the fissure, but may also result if bowel movements are avoided to avoid pain)
  • Painful or frequent urination
  • Tightness of anal canal
  • Skin tag at the fissure
