Administrative Fellowship Program

"The program offered me a unique opportunity to gain experiences and develop relationships across Mayo that would have taken a decade to accomplish with traditional job rotations."

- Jeffrey Korsmo
Chief Administrative Officer
Mayo Clinic in Rochester
AFP program years: 1983-1985

The Mayo Clinic Fellowship Program (AFP) is a two-year postgraduate fellowship that fosters the development of outstanding individuals committed to careers in health care administration.

The program provides administrative fellows with practical experience through direct exposure to, and active participation in, a variety of administrative activities in preparation for leadership opportunities within the Mayo system.

The program offers administrative fellows an opportunity to:

  • acquire and refine important managerial competencies, including analytical, persuasive and human relations skills
  • develop an awareness and understanding of Mayo Clinic organizational structure and the interrelation between departments and personnel
  • receive individualized mentoring from a wide array of administrators and physicians
  • establish a performance record through project work and departmental staff responsibilities

In turn, Mayo Clinic will:

  • benefit from the productive efforts of intelligent, energetic individuals
  • gain exposure to current management concepts and ideas from major academic institutions
  • attract promising new talent to its administrative staff

Compensation and Benefits

Mayo provides a competitive salary and a comprehensive benefits program including medical, dental, life and disability insurance. In addition, administrative fellows receive 28 days of paid time off and institutional support for appropriate professional travel.
