Addiction Treatment at Mayo Clinic

Outpatient Addiction Program

Karen Margitan, counselor

"We have an amazing resource in our staff, with over 250 years of combined experience helping people with addictions."
- Karen Margitan, outpatient addiction counselor

The outpatient addiction program can be used as a step-down program after graduating from the Intensive Residential Program, or patients can enter treatment at this level after their comprehensive evaluation. The coordinating psychiatrist and addiction treatment team, with patient input, will determine the appropriate level of support for each patient.

The outpatient addiction program offers half-day primary outpatient addiction services for four weeks. Sessions are held from 9 a.m. to noon, Monday through Friday. Program components include:

  • Structured group sessions
  • Process group sessions
  • Individual counseling
  • Friday family day
  • Ongoing nurse assessments and drug abuse surveys

Follow-up Care

Staff from the outpatient program help you every step of the recovery journey, because the right support at the right time gives the greatest opportunity for success. After completing the outpatient addiction program, patients can enter one of the Continuing Care programs or the addiction services staff will coordinate continuing care closer to your home.
