Acute Leukemia

Research

The Leukemia/Myelodysplasia Group at Mayo Clinic includes basic scientists and hematologists whose goal is to improve the outlook for patients with leukemia. Their research focuses on investigating the disease's biology, identifying risk factors, developing new drugs, detecting familial traits and studying the disease's epidemiology. Mayo Clinic experts conduct research trials and participate in national studies that test new treatments. Other research focuses on improving blood and marrow transplant and immunologic therapy for acute leukemia.

Investigational chemotherapy drugs such as Compound 506U78 (ARA-G) are available to patients through clinical trials. Another trial compares the benefits and risks of transplant versus chemotherapy.
